A bit about us
LifeLine International is a non-profit organization that operates in and around South Africa, with 14 dedicated offices across the country itself. LifeLine West Rand was established in 1977 and it is also affiliated with LifeLine South Africa, which in turn, is affiliated with LifeLine International.
While LifeLine West Rand acknowledges the Christian basis on which the international body was formed, it is a non-denominational Centre, and welcomes individuals from all faiths and respects the beliefs of all. Click on the link below to read more about LifeLine South Africa.
LifeLine was established in 1977 and is affiliated to LifeLine SA.
LifeLine has gradually, through its interaction with individuals, groups and communities, become aware of the escalation of past and present fear, hurt, and anger amongst communities in South Africa and the region. These emotions manifest through behaviors such as violence, greed, corruption, stereotyping, stigmatization, crime, and discrimination among other forms.
In responding to these challenges, LifeLine acknowledges that the organization cannot continue to offer just counselling and personal growth training approach. Counselling is naturally a reactive way of dealing with situations. In order to have a bigger impact on communities in Southern Africa, LifeLine has adopted the concept of community dialogues for Behavior Change.
In 2008, LifeLine’s Building Community Heart Approach was unveiled. Based on the Dialogue-to-Change concept, with a focus on sustainable social change and emotional wellness ownership in/for/with/by communities, this Approach entails community members exploring and challenging individual, group and societal values ( through dialogues and evolving action circles ), and allowing communities to take collective responsibility for identifying and responding to the inherent possibilities, within their own experiences.
A pilot of this Approach was undertaken by LifeLine West Rand in 2009, and then rolled out to other Centers.
In 2012, this approach became known as the Community Engagement Programme. This programme was implemented since 2008 thought-out the West Rand Region.
At the center of implementation in all that we do is Emotional Wellness. LifeLine promotes optimal Emotional Wellness, that is characterized by high self-esteem, satisfying relationships and the ability to cope effectively with life’s challenges. The emotional-well person is also able to maintain emotional balance, function with diverse cultural societies and live a fully engaged life, whilst maintaining meaningful connections with all other beings and the world at large.
